D.R.A.W. INSPIRATION!

By Tracy Winters

he last month has been rather hectic for the women and men of D.R.A.W. During the month of June the annual D.R.A.W. auction took place at the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Nationals held in Joliet, Illinois.  Over $40,000 was raised through the annual auction.  An extremely huge THANKS goes out to ROSALEE and TERRY NOBLE. As you read this we are preparing for the next DRAW event at the NHRA US Nationals. An autograph session with several of the popular professional drivers will take place Saturday morning in Nitro Alley. Naturally, all proceeds will benefit the Drag Racing Association of Women. Stay tuned for more details on the DRAW web site and newsletter.

On the news front D.R.A.W. has a new president Carol Gibbs. You will learn more about Carol next month. We are excited about the opportunity to work with a new president. During the month of August a few of the racers who have been assisted by D.R.A.W. will be featured as well. The previous president, Beth Hyatt, was a wonderful inspiration to the organization. I am quite certain that Carol will also be an inspiration to the board and the members of D.R.A.W.

As I am preparing the July column I've returned from the JEG'S US Open Bracket Championship held in Hamilton, Ohio. It truly was one of the most organized and fun bracket races I have attended in a long time. The golf cart race and scooter race sponsored by J.W. Performance Transmissions on Saturday evening was the highlight of

the event for racers, crew and family members. Fellow board member, Kevin Bennett participated in this great event. On my way home from the event I purchased a book Live Like You Were Dying. Most of us have heard the song by Tim McGraw, which is very inspirational. Reading books like this help provide insight on life in general. Actually, I was glad to read the book that I could really relate to. In many ways I have lived my life pursuing my goals and dreams with a lot of freedom and little regret in my life.

For example, in June 1999 I embarked on a trip to Russia to pick up my now adopted daughter.  Being a single parent with a highly demanding job it never occurred to me that this would or could be impossible.  It was frequently brought to my attention by others the difficulties that I would face.  I knew that I was prepared for the challenge ahead.

One of the things I have always admired about racers, sportsman and professional alike, is their passion for the sport. It takes more courage to go for your dreams and face the challenges than to sit back and do nothing. In closing remember you can't control the length of your life, but you can control the depth of it.
