BEST BOOKED-IN ACT
Motes' jet truck. A Kenworth that does over 200 mph in the quarter
and burns down Bill Bader's signs as a bonus-great entertainment at
any price! Honorable mention: Rex Stevens Jr. You never know what's
going to happen. (JB)
Top Fuel Bikes. (RL)
WORST BOOKED-IN ACT
It's a tie: Sports Magic and the Nitro Girls. If I see one more fat
guy without a shirt dancing on the Jumbo-tron, I won't be responsible
for my actions. As for the Nitro Girls-are you kidding me? (JB)
THINGS THAT SHOULD BE DISCONTINUED
Bracket racing fuel cars at the Winston Invitational. Boring, boring,
boring. (JB)
High speeds by pro teams on the return road and through the pits because
of the 75-minute rule Someone is going to get hurt or killed. (RL)
The excessive playing of the national anthem and double-dipping of
the paying customer. Give the racers a bigger cut of the T-shirt sales
.. at least, the independents. (CM)
THINGS THAT SHOULD BE INITIATED
Improved rules and regulations regarding chassis and safety rules for
fuel dragsters and funny cars. (JB)
Jewish, Muslim, Taoist, and Buddhist prayers, or whatever they call
them, before final eliminations. Not everyone's a Christian ... and
then a moment of silence for and from our atheists. (CM)
BEST THING 2000 WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR
John Force passing Bob Glidden for most career NHRA wins. (JB)
Nothing. Overall, it was a shitty year for drag racing as the gap between
NASCAR and the HRAs grew larger in all areas. The 2000 season is definitely
a baseline to be improved upon. (CM)
WORST THING 2000 WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR
Death. Mike Mitchell, Steve Evans, Clayton Harris, Steve Collison and
too many others. Worst year in my memory. Honorable mention goes to
the 90-percent rule for fuel cars for not stopping explosions or fires.

Mike Mitchell's "Revolution" Corvette.

The inordinate amount of deaths of treasured friends, in my case Mike
Mitchell, Jackie Miller, Steve Evans and Steve Collison. In the distance,
the lousy nitro times and the retirement of Joe Amato. (CM)
