Next season, VanMeter plans to continue racing with the NMRA and Fun Ford series simply because his entire team enjoys the people there. He said he also wants to run more ORSCA events because there’s more money to be won there and he likes the eighth-mile challenge. The car has already run low 4.60s in the eighth, so it’s nearly where it has to be to be a contender.

“We’ve got a lot of laps on a turbo car already, so we knew quite a bit going into this. We know what we’re doing with one of them and I think that was a lot of what made it successful early—but Steve Petty was a big part of that as well,” VanMeter added. “The only thing we’re lacking is experience because the car has a lot of the latest technology and gizmos on it that we know will work; we’ve done our homework on those. And when we get it all figured out, it will be deadly.”

The competition has officially been put on notice.
