He said he got a charge out of watching Don Garlits revel in last season's 50th anniversary hoopla. Garlits, crowned the NHRA's best driver ever, qualified at the U.S. Nationals and achieved his dream of traveling 300 miles an hour.

"Garlits was like a kid in a candy story. Prior to going to Indy, he was wetting through the telephone," Glidden said of his longtime friend.

Bob Glidden isn't giddy. He isn't wearing Depends. He's back in a Pro Stock car because he wants to be. And he still thinks he can.
