Pro Mod driver Quain Stott:
"Probably the finals at Norwalk because it was me and (younger brother)
Mitch in the final round. Not because I won, but just because that's
something my daddy always wanted. We finally did something he wanted.
The look on daddy's face was worth it. You could tell he was proud.
He can be a hard old bastard to deal with, but that made it worth it.
And you can print that."
Canadian Funny Car driver Rob Atchison:
"Qualifying number one at my home track (Grand Bend, ON), that's definitely
it. It was the first IHRA national event in Canada and being 45 minutes
from home, all my friends, and family, and sponsors were there. It was
definitely the place to shine."
2000 Top Fuel Champion Paul Romine:
"The pass at Darlington in the spring. That was dramatic. The (front)
wheels were in the air, it was at night and the flashbulbs were going
off, it's in the final, and everything was going on at once. Two puffs
of smoke flew by the cockpit when the wheels came down, I was on the
brake, off the brake, I mean, I was busy in there."
Pro Stock driver Chris Holbrook:
"The high point came in Maryland when we qualified number five with
a 6.62. We'd been having a rough time all year and that was the first
time-the only time-that we qualified in the top half of the field. It
was tough going from racing with a lot of money to racing with very
little." [Note: Holbrook won the 1999 IHRA P/S championship, but his
team disbanded after only one race in 2000. He ran most of the rest
of the year with a hastily thrown together effort, but has a firm ride
in place for 2001.]
Pro Mod team owner Johnny Rocca:
"When I saw the win light come on at Epping, New Hampshire in the final,
when we won it all for the first time with our new team. I'll never
forget that. We ran consistent 6.20s all day and proved it was no lucky
thing."
Pro Outlaw rookie Mick Snyder:
"Definitely the win at Cordova, Illinois. My grandpa was there, it was
Father's Day, and it was my first win as a rookie. Unfortunately, he
died a couple of weeks ago, so I'm just really glad he was there to
see that."
