I was hoping for a "Best Engineered" or "Best
Appearing" trophy, but they didn't give either
one out. So now it's time for some bracket racing
in a dragster that has the style of a 21st Century
Jr. Fueler but the stance of a '60s FED. Time
to put on some Chuck Berry and crack open a
Bud or two, eh?

First pass ever down a drag
strip for my new front-engine dragster was
at the 2nd annual NHRA Hot Rod Reunion presented
by DuPont Automotive Finishes, at Beech
Bend Raceway Park. Pittman Racing Engines
small-block 383 with good stuff inside took
"Yeow-eee!" to 8.70-second elapsed time,
and that was footbraking it! |

Auto Meter gauges are tucked
into the old-style scoop that folds over
via the release of two pins to reveal an
alcohol-driven Barry Grant 750 carb. "Yeow-eee!"
is easily accessible. |

CC-3 delay box, B&M Pro Bandit shifter,
Auto Meter Monster tach, 'chute lever, Dedenbear
trans brake button and "telephone" cord,
shows Auto Meter gauges mounted in the scoop.

stage and stop on a dime, thanks to Wilwood's
new dual brake disc/dual master cylinder
braking system. Well worth it. Rear end
internals are all Strange Engineering. |
I firmly believe in racing
mufflers, especially those by Dynatech,
which are seen here. "Roadster" types fit
the small-block motor perfectly, allow for
good sound on the track and in my neighborhood.
Plus they don't cost horsepower. |
