out a record-smashing year at Oldsmar with a 189.46-mph top speed effort
in his and Al Thompson and Don Maynard's "Chizler" Top Fueler.

Dec. 3 - J.L. Payne wheeled Vance Hunt's Top Fuel Dragster to the Drag
News newspaper No. 1 spot with a best of three match win over previous
holder Karamesines at Oldsmar. ... Low E.T.of the year? Don Garlits
and Connie Swingle's 7.88 at Columbia, S.C.
1962
Dec. 9 - Herb Reis and Steve Porter's Olds-powered Top Fueler ran a
7.96 at Pomona Dragstrip, making them just the fourth car in the seven-second
zone
Dec. 16 - Don Prudhomme wheeled the Greer-Black-Prudhomme juggernaut
to the Top Fuel title at Pomona. Prudhomme defeated Jack Chrisman in
Vince Rossi's "Spaghetti Benders" entry in the first round and followed
with a final-round win over Tom McEwen in Frank Cannon's "Hustler" to
take Top Fuel. Prudhomme's best e.t. and mph were an 8.17/182.80.
1963
Dec. 1 - Bud Faubel wheeled the Shively Motors/"Honker" '63 Dodge to
an A/Factory Experimental match race win over Bill Lawton in the Tasca
Ford Thunderbolt at Cecil County Drag-O-Way in Rising Sun, Md. The big
deal? Faubel ran one of-if not the first-11.3-second times, with an
11.39 in one of the rounds. The Drag News A/FX mark at that time
was a 12.10 by Arnie Beswick.
1964
Dec. - The country's best top-ending dragster, the Brissette & Alexander
Top Fueler, ripped off the fifth best speed of the year at Fontana Drag
City (Calif.) when "Wild Bill" Alexander charged to a 204.08-mph speed.

Dec. 5 - "Dyno Don" Nicholson's A/FX Mercury Comet set a Phenix City
Dragway (Ala.) track e.t. record in taking a four-out-five match race
win over Ronnie Sox in the Sox & Martin/Gate City Motor Co. '65 Plymouth.
Nicholson ran a 9.58 for a new track record.
