After
four days of on and off rain showers
racers were finally able to complete
the 3rd Annual Nitto Tire World Finals
at Memphis Motorsports Park. An event
which should have been completed on a
Sunday, stretched until early afternoon
Tuesday, as racers who remained in Memphis
had to sit through two grueling days
waiting for a chance to even get their
cars out of the trailers to compete in
the final event of the PRO Edelbrock
Drag Racing Series.
All eliminators were completed early
in the afternoon on Tuesday, with the
exception of Denso Pro Street and Nitto
Tire Super Street. Those finals were
decided off the track as the finalists
chose not to stick around to actually
race on Tuesday. Under normal circumstances
this would not be allowed, but special
consideration was given in this instance
since both classes were in the final
when the rain halted action on Monday
night.
In Pro Street,
Brian Robbins was awarded the win
and Tim O’Hare runner-up after
the two of them made it through two
earlier rounds. O’Hare had
already gathered enough points to
claim the season driving title, so
the “loss” was of little
consequence to the Ocean View, Del.,
driver. |
In Super Street, Dan Millen was
determined the winner in an agreement
with his would-be opponent, Alan
Dudley. As in Pro Street, both
drivers had raced their way to
the final, but due to the race
delay, both needed to get back
home to work and thus agreed to
proclaim Millen the winner. Millen,
by advancing to the final, had
also earned enough points to clinch
the championship over Dudley. |
