Scott Cannon, Jr. staged
against Pat Musi in round one and brought the r's up
after he lit the second bulb, and Musi sat there. It
was at least 12 seconds until he staged, but Cannon
never flinched. He waited with his engine revving and
trailed .061 to Pats' .043 light. Cannon got to about
300 ft and the Stude shook the tires and drove him towards
the centerline which he crossed and took out 1/8th mile
cones. Musi ran 6.36-221.29 for the win. |
The Pro Mod class featured
a couple of veteran teams and drivers. Dale Brinsfield,
a veteran Pro Mod driver and currently an instructor for
the Roy Hill driving school, squared off in the finals round
against another old Pro Pat Musi. That final round was a
classic with Musi and his nitrous oxide injected ’57
Shoebox squaring off against Roy Hill’s supercharged
04 Mustang. Brinsfield got to the final when potential Pro
Mod rookie of the year Scotty Cannon Jr. crossed the notoriously
slick Moroso track’s centerline with his supercharged
Studebaker while racing against Musi in the first round.
That put Musi into the finals against Brinsfield and he
knew he was at a performance disadvantage to the supercharged
Mustang. Musi had a near perfect .008 light while Brinsfield
had a respectable .085. Never the less Brinsfield’s
6.277/229.82 ran Musi down and Musi clicked it early running
a 7.292 at just 134mph.
Frank Altilio took home the
Quick-16 title by defeating Bruce Liberman. Liberman
left first with a .025 light to Altilios' late .178
RT. At the long end it was Altilio running 7.340-179.21
on his 7.33 dial to defeat Bruce who was unable to
run his 7.50 dial and lost with a 7.66-172.14 effort. |
The winner of Quick 16 2004 Series,
with an overall points total of 246 points was defending
Citrus Nationals Champion Bill Empke of West Palm Beach,
FL. Empke has been racing at Moroso Motorsports Park since
1981 in every class running from Super Pro to Pro Mod. Although
Empke won the overall points Championship, Frank Altilio,
of Ocoee, took the class win with a winning pass of 7.340
at 179.21 mph. Altilio defeated local racer, Bruce Liberman
after Liberman failed to hit his target dial-in by 0.166
against Frank Atilio’s .010 difference. Best Appearing
Crew award went to Super Comp driver, Johnny Hollis of Miami,
while the Best Appearing Car award was given to Frank Taglieri,
of Coral Springs for his 1971 Corvette named Wild Cherry.
