"We're doing a bit of a balancing act right now. Naturally, we want to win every race we enter, which is our primary focus. However, we're also trying to run quicker, and you can't do that if you keep running the same equipment, so we're doing a little on-track R&D. Finally, we've uncovered a couple gremlins that have been affecting our performance, such as a problem with the fuel line that played tricks with the fuel pressure." — Kurt Johnson on playing mid-season catch-up

"Things have changed to where I'm not just trying to qualify; I'm trying to qualify number one." — Kenny Koretsky on his significantly improved performances this season

"In the past, the surface at Infineon Raceway was among the worst on the circuit. In fact, I won a few races there by figuring out how to get down the racetrack when no one else could, including using bead lock wheels in 1994. However, it was completely resurfaced two years ago to where it is now one of the premier facilities on the circuit." — Warren Johnson on one of the tricks he had up his sleeve to combat marginal racing surfaces

"We felt this would be the best weather and the best racetrack we were going to have all weekend and we couldn't wait to get out here. We also felt that we had a shot at the national record, and the 6.69 was a great run, don't get me wrong, but we really wanted a shot at the whole thing. We made a couple of minor mistakes, and probably could've run a 6.68 or even a mid-6.67, but it's still exciting to come out here and make Infineon Raceway the fourth track where we've put this Pontiac in the 6.60s. You'll see even quicker times tomorrow if we don't have the blazing hot sun." — Greg Anderson after picking up his 11th pole this year and resetting both ends of the track records with a 6.693-seconds pass at 206.01 mph in Saturday's first qualifying session

"This morning's run should have been a little quicker, but I rolled through the beam and it killed the e.t. by about a hundredth-and-a-half at 60-foot. Otherwise we were looking at a low 6.70 and possibly a high 6.69." — Jason Line, Anderson's teammate, on his number-two qualifying performance

"We are looking at the tune-up for tomorrow because we know we're going to need a good run to beat Greg—and he can be beat." — Jim Yates putting a positive spin on things after qualifying 16th

"We changed motors for Saturday's sessions. We had 12 runs on the other motor and we wanted to see how this one would run. Overall, it did good." — Eddie Guarnaccia, crew chief for Koretsky, after they finished 8th in qualifying

"We have a clutch in there that's given us all kinds of fits. I'm going to suggest that Glidden take it clear out and throw it away." — Larry Morgan referring to crew chief Bob Glidden after they failed to improve their 3rd-place position in the final qualifying session

"We are working on making the car run better every run, but we went in the wrong direction on the tune-up against Greg. The result was opposite of what we expected." — Yates on his opening-round loss to Anderson

"We just didn't make a very good run. It shook the tires in low gear a little bit." — Morgan on his second-round loss to David Connolly

"Eddie and the crew keep doing a good job preparing the car. All I have to worry about is driving and I know I need to work on the starting- line lights. I don't know what I'm doing; but whatever it is, I have to improve it." — Koretsky after Anderson laid a holeshot on him and won round two going away

"The first couple of times I got to the final, it was pretty cool, now it's just frustrating. I'm ready to win one of these races." — Connolly on falling to Anderson for the second consecutive race, and in his fourth final this year

"It's so hard to win back-to-back races, let alone three in a row on the Western Swing. These races are all so different. You have Denver that's just so far off the radar screen on anything that we do all year, and then to win there and go to Seattle where it's hard to predict what will happen, and then to come here where it's cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon. For what this team has been able to do at these three events, under such different conditions, is pretty special." — Anderson after equaling his single-season win record at 12, with eight races still to go this year

"We're aiming to win half of the remaining races. That's probably a good number to shoot for and it should be attainable. Of course, we could get totally lost tomorrow and I could fall off this big wave we've been riding, but for now I'm enjoying the ride." — Anderson again, after becoming the first Pro Stock driver in NHRA history to sweep the three-event Western Swing
