Mike Kurz—A non-qualifier at last year’s Drag Racing Online
Quick 8 World Series show, Kurz vaulted to the inaugural World Series Nostalgia
Funny car win. His ‘74 Duster used early Hemi power to run 7.70 and
7.52, a solid and winning effort. Great flame paint job too! |
Rick Lawrence, Jordan, Minnesota—A car
with some history, having started out as the
Super Shops giveaway car campaigned by Ed McCulloch.
Whoever won it, sold it, and the car made its
way through the Tom Hoover and Doc Halladay
operations, among others. Lawrence ran a 7.11/195
best, but seemed just as pleased to have put
together a period-correct flopper. That it
ran hard, and was well received by the fans
on hand was a nice bonus.
John Dunn—nobody had more problems at
Cordova than John Dunn. But then again, nobody
else was trying to run nitro. Dunn spit out
a spark plug on his burnout, and the resulting
damage was enough to sideline him for the day.
Dunn acted as the organizer of the group’s
World Series appearance, a task at least as
daunting as perfecting a nitro tune-up. Get
some tune-up help, John, and congratulations
and thanks are due you from the Cordova staff,
the fans on hand, your fellow racers, and the
observers at Drag Racing Online for your efforts
at the 51st World Series.
Dave Harris, Joliet, Illinois—Harris
and family operation’s ‘77 Monza
wasn’t the fastest unit on hand, but
made both laps, and looked right doing it.
Iron Chevy, 8;41 and a ‘glide - original
stuff all! And that, as much as anything is
what nostalgia racing is all about.
Tracey Klingerman, Bourbon, Indiana—TK’s ‘77
Monza went the extra mile on the burnout routine,
long and sideways the order of the day. And
at a 7.53 best, a decent runner too. Another
all-original car, one that the fans really
responded to.
Mike Boisvert, Delavan,
Wisconsin --
Another car with a past and a storied one at
that. The ex-Blue Max Mustang II in the flesh.
Boisvert continues to negotiate with Raymond
Beadle over use of the correct color (blue,
duh!), so far to no avail. According to Mike,
the color is still in the gel coat, so the
only holdup is Beadle. Meanwhile, the Sheer
Hell Mustang puts on a good show, and serves
as a marquee level link with the bracket’s
past.
