"We had been riding out a tune-up that
we built over four years ago. When the rules
changed, it was very hard on us. You have to
consider that we had over 700 runs worth of

data but from that point it all became useless.
At the U.S. Nationals we finally hit on a nice
setup that seems to be something the car likes.
What's really encouraging is how quickly we've
been able to put it all together. We worked
on several things in testing at Indy including
the clutch, the engine and the aerodynamics
of the body. We wanted to make sure we had all
the downforce we could possibly get out of the
Monte Carlo. The new tires don't have the traction
the old tires had and because of that we probably
never took full advantage of the maximum downforce
of the Chevrolet. We took a hard look at the
body to take advantage of the Chevrolet's aerodynamics,
and everything we could do, we did. It showed
today."—Worsham
on regaining the performance advantage he enjoyed
in the early stages of 2004
"I also want to say something about the
Goodyear tires. There's been a lot of comment
lately about the tires, but today they were
flawless. We put a lot of stress on them, and
they carried us through the whole race. The
tires were perfect."—Worsham
again, after winning for the 4th time in four
final-round appearances this year

"If you stay in the groove at the Texas
Motorplex, it is one of the best racetracks
we run on all year. The only negative aspect
of the all-concrete surface is how narrow the
groove can be, but that’s why they put
steering wheels in these race cars.”—Warren
Johnson weighing in on the unique challenge
of the Dallas strip
"We want to get to the track and let
the clutch out. The new engine combination
showed a lot of promise; we just need to get
more runs on it." -- Jim Yates on
the new power combo he debuted with one qualifying
pass at Reading before the race was postponed
by rain
"The set-up will be the key, because
even though the track looks good, there is
a tendency to spin the tires. Therefore, the
four-link, clutch, and shock set-ups will be
critical.”—Kurt
Johnson on the need to have your chassis sorted
out at Dallas
"I've never had the horsepower I have
now. I always felt that if I had equal power
that I could run with the leaders."—Kenny
Koretsky on the effect of his Larry Morgan-built
engines
“Very rarely in my career have we run
top speed at an event, so I think that effort
there shows we're on to something.”—Jeg
Coughlin Jr. on securing his first number-one
starting position this season with a run of
6.774 seconds at 204.35 mph that also reset
both ends of the track records
