Pulde brought Dan Horan's '66 Mustang, which
is draped over a '94 Murf McKinney chassis.
Horan was unable to attend due to illness
and as a result Pulde and his girlfriend,
Valerie Harrell, were the whole crew.
Pulde tuned, drove and did between round
maintenance. He ran a couple of 6.25 times
in qualifying, and a 6.341/226.35 in the
final got him the win over Randy Walls. Not
a bad couple of days for a guy who had came
to the race figuring on only tuning a car,
not doing everything.
Mike Adams didn't cash in due to a bizarre
set of circumstances. He made a 6.26 checkout
pass early on that didn't count as a qualifying
lap but did do some damage to the drivetrain
of the hemi-powered 'Vette. He also had a
malfunction on the only qualifying pass he
did make, so he didn't qualify for the quick
four run-off. He did, however, come back
and make a third pass and ran the quickest
pass ever for a VRA-legal car at 6.083/230.02.
That run is even more impressive when you
consider the car was restricted to a 6.71
supercharger, 18 gal fuel pump and a 3-4
amp magneto.
