Wayne Newby, in the Gatorz Eyewear Top Alcohol Dragster set the benchmark at 5.71 seconds going into eliminations.
Daniel Peaty was the class of the field on his K&N sponsored Suzuki Pro Bike with a 7.37 top qualifier.

Other Pro brackets saw Top Doorslammer (Pro Modified to you North Americans) headed by no other than five second runner, John Zappia in his familiar HQ Holden with a 6.10. The bracket was anchored by the ’57 Nomad driven by Ray Bernard who ran a personal best of 6.33 in the purple wagon. The Top Alcohol bracket (a combination of alky dragsters, floppers and altereds) was lead by Wayne Newby’s dragster, which cranked out a best of 5.71 seconds.

The Pro Stock Bike bracket saw Daniel Peaty in familiar territory when he top qualified with a 7.37 on his Suzuki. Similarly the number one qualifier in Top (Fuel) Bike was Jay Upton on his white Puma sickle with a 6.57 second lap. A lot of the sportsman records took a real hiding in qualifying for the event. Add to this a superb selection of racers in the bracket and heads up eliminators and the sport in Australia was robbed of the conclusion to a fantastic event.

Amazingly the same fate befell the event last year when it was completed in January this year. Due to the fact that the January event next year will be headed by Dave Grubnic the Nationals was officially cancelled – a sorry ending to what should have been a cracker race.

With consecutive events being canned in November it will be interesting to see what ANDRA and Willowbank Raceway do with the calendar for the 2006 event.

What about a 6.89/201 mph Morris 1000 - you better believe it.
They certainly didn’t come out of England this way.
