EZ STREET

Shane Stack, dubbed “Thrillbilly” by certain ORSCA media members, enjoyed a relatively calm weekend at Atlanta Dragway capped by the EZ Street win to punctuate his 2005 ORSCA class championship.

The EZ Street crown in Atlanta went to new class champion Shane Stack, but it was Kell Eubanks who stole the show by setting a new outlaw ET record of 5.182 seconds in his semi-final win over Dave Cox. Eubanks also ran 5.185 in qualifying number one, becoming the first EZ Streeter to run in the teens in the process, and earned the Huntsville title by beating Tim Kincade during the third qualifying round.

Dallas, GA’s Kell Eubanks, who holds the official ORSCA EZ Street elapsed-time record of 5.224 seconds, made two unofficial passes of 5.18 seconds at the non-points Atlanta event.

Both Stack and Eubanks had byes in the opening round, then number-three qualifier Stack got past Nick Yarber and Tommy Brewer to reach the final, while Eubanks handled a wheelstanding Bob LeBrecque and Cox in the prelims.

Then, once more, it was an advantage at the start that spelled the final-round win for Stack, as he left with a .076-second holeshot that allowed his 5.327/133.37-mph pass to prevail over the quicker and faster 5.316/139.40 by Eubanks.

“We just kind of chased our tail all weekend,” Stack said. “We were always there in the middle and managed to win on a holeshot. It’s the last race of the year and we go out a winner; it feels real good.”
