"We were fighting to get our tire spin under control
in first gear all weekend." --
Jim Yates after going a career best 6.672 to qualify 7th
“When I went through at the end Bob never came across
the radio and said anything so I thought, ‘Well, that's
either really good or really bad.’ Then he came across
and said we were in.” -- Richie
Stevens referring to legendary crew chief Bob Glidden after
breaking into the field in the final qualifying session
with a 6.696/207.08 pass
“That was really something." --
Kenny Koretsky after going 6.660 secs during qualifying
on Friday, which at the time was the quickest pass in NHRA
history, but wound up only good enough to place him third
for eliminations on Sunday
"We were confident that our .67 from Friday would keep
us in the show, so we tried a new clutch combination this
morning that might not have been too bad if we had made
a straight run. Unfortunately, it was all over the race
track and tried to eat the guard rail. Even so, we learned
something so we left it alone for the last session, but
it burned itself up again, so we're battling some inconsistencies
with this particular set-up, so we'll switch back to a more
reliable combination that we know will get us down the race
track.” -- Kurt Johnson on
conducting experiments on Saturday in preparation for eliminations
on Sunday
"We've been making incremental changes, and it keeps
throwing us a bone. We don't know how fast this thing is
going to go—it may go fast enough to turn my hair
white.”
-- Warren Johnson on the progress
he’s making with an all-new car this season
"Gainesville was just a disappointing weekend, especially
because we had such high expectations. We spent 15 days
testing there during the off season and we confirmed those
numbers just two days before the race with a test session
in Georgia. We ran good times during both test sessions,
but we didn't get it done during the national event."
-- Erica Enders after DNQing for
the second time after three races this season
“We did a great job this weekend, but the driver
didn't do his job second round. I'll take the heat for this
one and we'll move on.” --
Anderson after losing to WJ in round two
"We ran a 6.72 to his 6.71, so I'd have to have been
perfect at the starting light in order to beat him. If I
had had anybody else I probably would have won … I
could have had a better light. With his having a .017, I'd
have to have had a .001, .002 or .003 to beat him. I don't
think I had that in me today. I'm not saying I couldn't
ever do it. I might have been able to do a .020 or have
been even with him, but I don't think we could have beat
him.” -- Stevens recalling
his second-round loss to eventual race winner Jason Line
“You can't win them all, and it doesn't help when
you have an .081 light, but we did all right up until the
semi-finals. Some people will say we took out some fast
race cars today, but if you check the record, we were the
faster of the two cars on the track each time.” --
W. Johnson after losing to a holeshot by Dave Connolly in
the semis
"I haven't been too proud of my driving lately so
it was really good to win a round on a holeshot. That round
was really good for my self confidence.” --
Connolly on his view of the semi-final round against Johnson
"He's unbelievable on the tree. I did about the best
I can do with a .027 and I made some mistakes shifting but
we ended up with the win. Credit the horsepower the guys
gave me today.” -- Line referring
to Connolly’s .006 reaction time against him in the
final
PRO STOCK BIKE
“When
I saw GT (Tonglet, teammate) leave the starting line on
the second pass of the day, I thought, ‘Oh no, he
beat me to it,’ because it looked like a great run.
But the scoreboard flashed the 7.007 and I was excited to
have another chance to break the record. As soon as I launched
from the starting line I knew we had it.” --
Andrew Hines after officially becoming the first P/S Bike
rider in the sixes with a 6.991 in qualifying on Friday
