"Now, that was a ride, [but] no matter how good that
felt to me, we still lost, and that's what counts."
-- Rod Fuller on running a career best 4.560 at 327.51 mph
in a losing effort against Schumacher in round two
"In qualifying I could catch every tire shake issue
with the brake handle, but this time for some reason the
last one caught me off guard.” –
Morgan Lucas on losing traction about half-track in the
semis against McClenathan
"An on-track incident is not
the way I wanted to start this season."
-- T.J. Zizzo on getting tangled
up with Bobby Lagana Jr. as they were exiting the shut down
lane following their first qualifying attempt, leaving both
vehicles damaged
FUNNY CAR
“I can’t believe it. I couldn’t believe
it when I was doing the clutch on John’s car. I thought
I’d made it then, but to have an opportunity to drive
a car of this caliber for a crew chief like Jimmy Prock,
I’m just very lucky.” --
Hight on winning the first race of his career in just his
fourth start
“Before the race John came to me and said, 'I want
you to try your best to kick my butt. Come after me.' So
that's what I did. I didn't even realize he didn't get down
the track until later." --
Robert Hight on facing off against Force, his team owner
and father-in-law, in the semis
“This whole day has been a blur. I tried to stay
busy so I wouldn't get nervous or even think about where
I was, but don't get me wrong, I was still plenty nervous.
John did tell me how many finals he'd been to before he
won (nine) and he told me he'd worry himself sick for no
reason. He told me to just relax and race like it was any
other round.” -- Hight again,
on the advice he received from Force before scoring his
breakthrough win
“Sometimes, something as small as a $20 switch can
have major consequences and take all the other elements
(of the car) down. It is very disappointing when you make
it all the way up there and the engine does not start.”
-- Tony Pedregon after electrical
troubles prevented him from making his second qualifying
attempt
"The track got tighter during the second run and we
unleashed a few too many horses too early. We were a little
too aggressive for the cooler air temperature and the high
humidity. And we also were the first pair to go down the
track.” -- T. Pedregon on
losing traction in round two against Worsham
"I didn't know where he was, but the thought went
through my head very quickly: I could hit the 'chutes and
get it stopped, or I could point it straight and hope to
coast through there. I got it across the finish line and
he came barreling by me just a split second later, but we
got the win light. For some reason we hung a valve open
and that caused the backfire. The biggest problem was it
damaged the body pretty badly. We had to swap out a lot
of stuff between rounds." –
Del Worsham on his second-round win over T. Pedregon despite
banging the blower about half-track
