Defending AMS/TLR Pro Mod World Champ Mike
Ashley has to like the way the 2005 Pro Mod season is going
so far. His supercharged Mustang has yet to set on the pole
at a single NHRA event this year.
On race day he and his Chuck Ford tuned
Mustang have been the picture of consistency, and if it
weren’t for the superstar team of driver Jay Payne
and engine builder/tuner Brad Anderson, Ashley would probably
be leading the Pro Mod points chase in the AMS/TLR series.
Instead, after a convincing win over archrival
Jay Payne and Brad Anderson at Las Vegas, Ashley and his
crew are just about one round out of first place.
At Vegas Canadian Pro Mod racer Glen Kerunsky,
who gets tuning help from race car builder and former Pro
Mod World Champ Tim McAmis, just edged Ashley off of the
pole with a 6.223/228 lap that covered Ashley’s 6.229/227
performance. That was just about the last time during the
race that Ashley’s Mustang wasn’t the quickest
car in the field. In fact Ashley was quickest in every round
of eliminations save one.
