Beaufort, SC’s John Lynam was the fourth Pro Extreme qualifier in the threes with a 3.988 that placed him behind Bil Clanton (3.975), Eddie Ware (3.979), and newcomer Todd Bauknecht (3.987), but he saved his real heroics for Sunday. On a track hovering around the 130-degree mark, Lynam was the only driver to break into the threes during the ADRL Team Challenge, going 3.939 at 185.28 in his second-round win over Thomas Patterson, then capping it off in the final run of the weekend with a 3.942 at 185.92 mph to beat Mike Bell with the fastest speed of the meet. "We’re just so excited to be able to run like that in this heat," Lynam said later. "We tore up the four-link between those passes and it’s a real credit to my team that they were able to put it back together so fast and go out an run a number like that." On the 3.939 pass, Lynam ran a .985 60-foot time and 2.614 to the 330-foot mark.

Former IHRA and NHRA Pro Mod champion Shannon Jenkins made a little bit of history by becoming the first to place a nitrous car in the ADRL’s eight-car Pro Extreme field when he drove teammate Mike Castellana’s 2005 Cavalier to a 4.030-second lap in the final round of qualifying. Jenkins' time also bettered the 4.035 bump at last year’s ADRL race in Jackson, SC, creating the quickest Pro Mod field in history. Starting eighth, Jenkins faced off against number-one man Bil Clanton in round one of eliminations, but despite leaving first and upping his performance to a 4.007 at 182.95 mph, "The Iceman" fell to Clanton’s 3.970/181.69 in his blown ’53 Studebaker. Jenkins’ incrementals on the pass were .984 at the 60-foot mark and 2.655 at half-track, compared to .977 and 2.615 in Clanton’s lane.
