Jackie
Hansen managed to outlast the Pro Stock field and card his
first FIA Event win, beating defending champion Jimmy Alund
in the final round, who had dropped slightly from his previously
dominant performance levels and pulled a red light to hand
the victory to the Dane in the ex-Tommy Hammonds Cavalier.
BIKES
Ian
King bounced back from a couple of seasons in the doldrums in spectacular
fashion, resetting his PB on virtually every pass (now number 16
on the all time global nitro bike list with a 6.33) and charged
to the event win in UEM Top Fuel Bike with a 6.383/206 over longtime
sparring partner Steve Woollatt's 6.597/212. Expect to see King
dip into the 6.2's once the bike runs with all four lit for the
full quarter.
Norwegian
Svein Olav Rolfstad had a dream start to the season, dominating
Super Twin Fuel Bike on his heavily reworked blown Fastcat Harley,
a new PB in taking the No. 1 qualifying spot with a 6.682/210.42
mph blast being followed up by a string of sixes to take the
event title over Germany's Joachim Riemer.
In UEM Pro Stock shocks were very much the order
of the day as the usual Scandinavian dominance disappeared
by the semis with the no-show of Roger Pettersson.
This left Martin Bishop and Richard Gipp to compete
in an all English final round, with Bishop getting
the nod with a 7.67 to 7.82.
