We let Premier Custom Paint
and Power Coating man Joe Sannutti of Baxley, Georgia
get a taste of our DRO "Yeow-eee!" project
dragster in the Nostalgia Comp/C class. He lost first
round to a .0009 margin of victory. Joe painted and
coated our 8-second digger. |
Other winners were Bob Crouse of Bear, Delaware, in “B”
Jr. Fuel over Larry Hunter of St. Charles, Missouri; Mitch
Rish of Houston, Mississippi, in the “Oldies”
class over Allan Burns from Gaithersburg, Maryland; and
Ron Doran of Pataskala, Ohio, in his “Geezer Gassers”-classed
’40 Willys coupe over Ron Malmsten of Belleville,
Minnesota, in his ’41 Willys pickup.
Christopher Buck of York Haven, Pennsylvania, won Nostalgia
Comp in his dragster over Don Wellman of Johnstown, Ohio,
also in a dragster, while Terry Lindsey of Bowling Green
beat Eddie Hockman of Battletown, Kentucky, in the Quick
64 class, which saw 130 entries in competition.
Other interests of note: “Big Daddy” Don Garlits,
wife Pat and legendary crew chief Tommy Lemons showed up
at Saturday night’s popular “Cacklefest”
with a reproduction of his famed “Swamp Rat 1”
fueler, with this one being called his “1-B”
entry on the entry form.

And
famed chassis and tin man Tom Hanna, now living in Kansas,
debuted a new “Cacklefest” front-motored dragster
built just for the event. Loaded with chrome and a swoopy
parachute mount, this Hanna car had to be his most beautiful
yet.
“People like this, and so do we, so we’ll be
back next year,” said race director and NHRA Wally
Parks Motorsports Museum Steve Gibbs immediately after this
year’s “Cacklefest.”
