Jacobsmeyer had the best possible end to a frustrating
day. "All the work we did last week didn't help the
car at all, so I added several new 'devices' this week,"
noted the six-time DRO winner and member of the Gateway
DSM team (http://www.gatewaydsm.org). "I had a friend
doing the wiring and programming in my driveway all afternoon,
and he tuned it while I concentrated on driving tonight.
Then, we got here late because I had to give my diabetic
cat its shots before I left. Justin deserves a lot of credit
for getting that eleven-second run because I was trying
just as hard." Did Jacobsmeyer really think he'd see
an 11-second timeslip from his Talon? "I was hoping
we could do it, but I wasn't sure. I knew everything had
to come together to make it happen, and it did. It's pretty
amazing that we both did it in the same night!"
By the end of the event, Jacobsmeyer had reclaimed the
Four-Cylinder SCSS ET Track Record, Bondurant had lowered
the Front-Wheel-Drive ET Track Record, and all SCSS track
marks had been pushed below 12.00 seconds and above 120
miles per hour. Of note was the 12.64/111.08 performance
by Matt Shepherd's Barnhart, MO '98 Eclipse which earned
the 13th qualifying spot in the SCSS "Super 16".
Ross Accardi's similar 4G63T-powered Mitsubishi clocked
a best of 13.08/110.01 for the fourth position in the DRO
Sport Tuner Showdown.

While
Randy Christy was busy qualifying in the second berth of
the SCSS Street Car Shootout, his small block Chevy-powered
S-10 pickup was easily the low qualifier in the Carl's 4WD
& Performance Super Truck Showdown with its 11.42/117.04
best. Just prior to claiming the SCSS championship, Christy
pushed his S-10 to the victory in the Carl's STSS title
match to become the first driver to win two trophies in
Gateway's newest Tuesday night division.
Hal Marshall, whose white S-10 had scored a runner-up in
the very first Carl's 4WD event, took the second qualifying
spot with a 13.03/104.16 best which also anchored the SCSS
"Super 16" field. Chad McCaty's primered '73 GMC
Sierra took the third qualifying position in the Carl's
4WD program at 13.74/101.17.
In the final round, Christy had several concerns. "I
sure didn't want to redlight the Carl's title away, since
I wasn't certain how the Street Car Shootout final would
turn out. I already decided I was going to save the nitrous
for the SCSS final since I knew I probably could get around
Hal's S-10 without it and I'm still trying to sell this
thing so I didn't want to lean on the motor too much."
Christy allowed Marshall a sizeable holeshot but was able
to reel in the 350-powered pickup. Twenty minutes later,
Christy scored the first "double" in Gateway's
Tuesday night series with the SCSS win, as well.
