Wilson's most recent competitor has usually
been Peter Schofer, but the German team are have a few niggles
in dialing in a revised combination, mainly in the form
of tire shake, and have dropped them a tenth or so back
from the ACI team's blistering pace.
TOP METHANOL FUNNY CAR
The Scandinavian rounds are usually packed
with high quality entries that don't make the British rounds
of the championship, and Jarmo Kuuntniemi is just one example
of the high class of Top Methanol Funny Car that inhabit
the Nordic lands. The Finnish Camaro nailed down fifth in
both the Mantorp and Norwegian fields is the best prepared
entries in the class.
Sporting a new Stratus body, Leif Andreasson
is hoping to over come the shakes that have afflicted the
Kamasa Tools entry for the past two seasons. Although the
team is consistently qualifying they are someway off the
dominant position they held over the field a few seasons
ago. Perhaps a change in class beckons as Leif started licensing
procedures in one of Knut Soderquist's Top Fuel Dragsters
in Norway.
A chink in the cloak of invincibility
that surrounds Urs Erbacher appeared at Mantorp. Firstly,
the Swiss team didn't top qualify, and then were knocked
out in the first round of eliminations by Niclas Andersson
in the Sandflex Avenger. Andersson not only holeshot Erbacher,
but, and this is virtually unheard of, outran him with a
5.84 to a 5.89. With Erbacher out, the rest of the TMFC
field had more reason than most to rue the curtailment of
the meeting.
