After familiarizing herself with the
Persaker backed CBD rent-a-ride earlier in the season, Susanne
Callin returned to the FIA Finals after an absence of two
seasons. The 21-year-old Swede was beaming after running
her first four and 300 mph pass in qualifying (4.980/300.10)
to slot in at number three in the field. A consistent 5.025
was good enough to defeat Jon Webster's 5.171 in the first
round of eliminations, but a small fiery belch from the
supercharger after spinning the tires a car length out resulted
in a semi-final loss to Moller.
Outgoing champion Andy Carter needed
to take the event win and set low ET and others in the title
chase to stumble to stand a chance of retaining his crown
for the B&Q Power Tools team. A 4.977/294 ensured second
position in the ladder and the chance to take out one of
his title rivals—Moller, in the first round of eliminations,
who had struggled with shake and only managed a 5.31 best
in qualifying. Knowing that Moller's co-crewchiefs Kenneth
Lorentzon and Per Anderson were likely to throw everything
at the track, Carter tried to cut down the tree but missed
big time with a -0.365 RT. Moller would later have regrets
of his own after lifting when he saw the win light come
on.
Driving the main Persaker Speedshop entry,
the eponymous Joran Persaker rounded out his miserable 2005
with a place on the eight car bump spot (a 5.930 that simply
wouldn't have held up if the rain had abated on the Saturday).
The Bill Schultz-tuned ride failed to engage reverse after
the burnout in what would have been an all CBD team first
round match up against Micke Kagered, a low key end to what
many pre-season had anticipated would be a banner year for
the ever-smiling Swede.
