here were fans from all over the Midwest standing in line at 6 a.m. waiting for the gates at Byron (IL) Dragway to open. October 7, 2006, was the 12th annual World Power Wheelstanding Championship and they were ready to go. The grandstands were filled and some fans sat on top of trailers. They stood four deep at the fence at some places, all the way down to the finish line on both sides of the track.

Several times throughout the day Byron promoter
Ron Leek asked the fans to move their coolers off
the grandstand seats so that other people could sit
down. That’s the kind of problems a promoter
wants to have.
There was one oil-down in the first wheelstand session. Here track co-owner  B.J. Vangsness does a bit of cleaning.

“Animal Jim” Feurer and Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick were on hand to provide some racing action.  Other celebs on the grounds were Pat Mimic of Chi-Town Hustler fame and Bill “Maverick” Golden, driver of the Little Red Wagon wheelstander.

Here's What's New!
