“Turbo Tim” Lynch (above) launches toward history in winning the Outlaw 10.5 class at ORSCA’s 2006 season closer in Jackson, SC.
Most of the buzz coming out of the Outlaw Racing Street Car Association’s (ORSCA’s) season ender at Carolina Dragway Nov. 10-12, understandably had to do with Tim Lynch’s other-worldly performance in winning the Outlaw 10.5 event title. Marking the first time an Outlaw 10.5 car dipped into the 4.30s over the eighth mile, Lynch made a quarter-final run of 4.394 seconds, then lowered the record to an incredible 4.367 seconds in a final-round win over Jack Barfield.
Joining Lynch in victory lane were his Proline Racing teammate Eric Dillard in Limited Street and 2005 series champion Shane Stack in EZ Street, along with index winners Kenny Acree (5.30), Pete Rickerson (6.0), and Ed Bendahl in the 7.0 class.
OUTLAW 10.5
Tony Johnson (shown) ran 4.456 at 170.97 mph to qualify number one in his blown Hemi-powered ’69 Camaro, followed by Steve Kirk Jr. in John Ferguson’s nitrous-fed 2000 Camaro and Lynch in his twin-turbocharged, big-block Ford-powered ’02 Mustang.
The familiar ’92 Camaro of third-place points finisher Craig Miller will sport a new look next year. Miller, from Savannah, GA, said the car is going to John Bonner at The Race Factory for upgrading to 25.2 chassis certification. The chassis will be powder coated, all new interior tinwork will be installed, and the car’s body will be realigned and repainted blue with classic white Camaro stripes. Miller qualified 11th at Carolina and fell in round two against Mike Hill and his ’05 Mustang.
