“March Meet Cancelled” were the words nobody wanted to hear or say, but the rescheduled 47th annual Goodguys March Meet will go into history as a valiant try.

Torrential rains, cold and just plain lousy weather prevented a safe conclusion for the handful of cars that had a chance to get down the historic Famoso quarter mile this year. In the nitro-powered dragsters and funny cars very few were able to get down a very cold track during the short window of qualifying on Saturday.

Eventually the meet was cancelled when the sun came out causing puddles of water to weep up through the porous asphalt surface on the top end of the track. So, with Mother Nature taking the Top Eliminator crown this year, here’s a glimpse of a race that never cam off. “It’s as frustrating as it gets,” said Goodguys President Gary Meadors. “The racers and the officials both agreed that the conditions were not suitable for further competition.”
