Torrance, CA, driver Dale Ishimaru qualified No. 1 (5.07 at 236.28 mph) in Eddie Knox’s “Problem Child” (lead photo) and proceeded to work his way to a final round showdown with World Champion John Haas in Lou Osmon’s “Speed Sport Special” from St. Louis (below). Haas powered his way to the final via a 4.77/244.26 low e.t. / top speed round one win. After a “hot” day of drag boat action, only the two best Top Fuel Hydros in the world remained on the water. As the tree came down Ishimaru took a small starting line advantage (.053 to .185) and never looked back. He raced away from the “SSS” posting a 4.92/232.12 mph win over Haas’s game 5.12/225.30 mph try. |
