Balmy 30-degree temperatures brought out more
than 300 entries for the second annual HangoverFest
held January 1, 2003 at Cordova Dragway Park.
As a reward for their stamina, free aspirin
and "I Survived HangoverFest" can cozies were
distributed to the more than 500 spectators
as they came in the gate.
The staging lanes were filled with the normal pick-ups, SUV's, and street rods, but this year's event also included a 150-mph motorcycle, snowmobiles, ATV's and a commercial panel delivery truck.
In the Competition class, the final came down to two veteran Cordova racers. Jeff Smith drove his 1965 Olds for the win, running 11.674 at 100 mph. Bill "Chilly Willy" Schocker took a small snooze on the line with a .654 reaction time and settled for second place.
The Peacock's Bar Winter Nationals was an all
pick-up event and had 40 entries. The final
round saw Anthony Layne blast his Dually to
a 20.62 at 52 mph to get the win over Steve
Klemme.
