Kenny Bernstein, #2 in points, was here and had to be considered a favorite having won two of the three races and been runner-up in the third meet held here at Vegas. The Bernstein Racing camp was having a difficult time adjusting to the new Goodyear slick, but still winning rounds. (photo by Zak Hawthorne)

Twenty-two dragsters arrived and after four rounds of qualifying, Dixon was #1 again at 4.575, followed by Cory Mac #2, Kenny Bernstein #3, Tony Schumacher #4, and #16 Scott Weis in the ReceGirl.com sponsored fueler.

This race would also welcome back Melanie Troxel from her hiatus, to the wheel of the Western Rock Top Fuel Dragster. Melanie qualified in the top half of the field, much to the liking of owner Rick Michaels. Michaels, from Upland, CA, has made a commitment to run at twelve of the NHRA POWERade shows this season after the team made a lot of adjustments to the car in order to make Melanie comfortable in the ex-Bobby Baldwin dragster. Mr. Force, looking for that elusive 100th win, would again grab the #1 spot at 4.831, followed by Tim Wilkerson, Bazemore, Gary Densham, and Scotty Cannon in the #5 spot with Dean Skuza sitting 16th in his Dodge Stratus with a 5.024. Force once again brought out his Elvis Presley-bodied coupe, as did Snake Racing for driver Larry Dixon's ride.

Ron Krisher led pro Stock for the fourth time this season at 6.954, followed by George Marnell, Tom Martino, Jim Yates, Tom Hammonds (photo), and #5 sat Warren Johnson. J.R. Carr sat on the bump with a 7.01. (photo by Zak Hawthorne)

When Sunday morning rolled around, the Vegas Showgirls were there for driver introductions, the F-16's flew over, and the first round of Top Fuel brought David Grubnic and Andrew Cowin together. Both are out of shape and smoked the tires on this hot, sunny day.
