REAL WORLD VS DREAM WORLD
Prior to arriving at the Gainesville race, supercharged
racers recorded some impressive numbers. Al Billes' 6.11, Mitch Stott's
6.15, and Fred Hahn's 6.16 all looked good on paper. The best nitrous
numbers recorded at those same test sessions -- where the air temp was
under 80 degrees and the corrected altitude was reported to be under
600 feet below sea level -- were in the 6.30 flat range. In race conditions
at a blazing hot Gainesville, the best blown car time was Mitch Stott's
6.26, which was a tenth off of his best testing numbers. Both Hoover
and Shannon Jenkins ran steady 6.30's. Any questions?
