CERNEY MIGHT MAKE
THE DIFFERENCE FOR CANNON
Scotty Cannon drove his unpainted test car to a best of 4.854/307 which
shows that new crew chief Wes Cerney is certainly going to make a difference
in this team. Based on this performance Cannon should get his first
Fuel Coupe win early in the season.
LEE SMITH TESTS PRO MOD
Lee Smith took his ’58 Corvette on some shake-down laps. We earlier
mis-identified this car as belonging to Kirk Kuhns. We goofed.
BERNSTEIN, THE SECOND GENERATION
Kenny's son, Brandon Bernstein, was at Phoenix shaking down his Federal
Mogul injected nitro digger. Look for him to take over the Budweiser
King ride when/if Kenny retires next year.
NO REST FOR THE CHAMP
Think it's easy being the 10-time and reigning Winston Funny Car Champion?
John Force left Firebird Raceway after completing his third qualifying
run on Saturday, flew to Pomona where he was awarded the Jerry Titus
Memorial Award by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters
Association, and then flew back to Phoenix early Sunday morning to resume
testing of his newest Castrol GTX Mustang.
