How Things Have Changed Dept.
Remember "Butch" Blair of Martinez, California? He was the
last winner of the Bakersfield March (then May-ch) meet in 1988 with
his "Blair’s Fugowie" dragster. In the final at that event,
he beat Bob Reehl in the Posey & Murdock entry. He is Nostalgia
Top Fuel racing now, but things didn’t go all that well for him at the
Pepsi Firebird Nationals, only earning second alternate status with
a 6.673. On the subject of veteran Top Fuel racers, the final of the
nostalgia class involved former "Mountain Raider" Top Fuel
racer, Jack Harris, against Jim Murphy, who achieved fame with the "Holy
Smokes" Funny Car and the Beebe & Murphy/"Fighting Irish"
Top Fueler. Harris won their final with a 6.22/216.60.
Mike Boyd emulated the original owner of the "Winged Express"
Fuel Altered with this "Wild Willie" Borsch-styled burnout.
|
C.J. Nelson’s "Red Hot" Fiat is just that as he launched
with Ricky Ruiz’s "Nevada Rattler" during Friday Fuel
Altered qualifying.
|
Randy Hagerty’s ’63 Pro Mod Corvette looked a lot like the "Chi-Town
Hustler" with this humongous tiresmoker.
