A/FUEL
Fourteen of the nation's finest appeared, but it was all
Bill Wayne and his Lucas Oil-backed Bullhead City, AZ machine. First
he laid down Low E.T. qualifier at a record 6.41/213.98 mph. Next closest
was Ron Attebury at a respectable 6.52, but Top Speed of 217.49 mph.
Sean Bellemuir, the 20-year-old second generation driver won the points
battle over Jim Paul, by just a few points. But in the final round of
elimination's it was Bullhead City's finest in Bill Wayne at another
outstanding 6.49/213 mph over Attebury's game effort of 6.66/210 mph.
AA/GS 187.50
Everyone's favorite at a Goodguys show is the blown gas
coupes and sedans. Steve Woods set the pace in his ancient English Ford
Perfect at a record pace of 6.81/02.81-mph. You think competition is
tough, how about a 7.92 bump for the breed! When it was all over the
bright red Mallicoat Brothers 'Cuda with Dale Boomgaarden at the wheel
versus Howard Anderson's 1937 Chevy coupe, and both cars broke on the
pass so it was whose win light would come on. 11.93 seconds later and
give the win to Howard Anderson and his brother!
JR FUEL
This was just about the best JR fuel field I've seen in
quite some time. A 7.079/187.03 mph for Glendale, AZ driver Dean Carter,
while young Scott Parks from Burlingame Kansas, almost equaled Carter
at a fine 7.099. The Goodguys current champ, Wayne Ramay, was third
at 7.18/186. Four lady drivers qualified for this event. Kelly Craig,
from Campbell, Stacy Paul of Foresthill, Kirsten Neumann of Ventura,
and Chula Vistas' Mendy Fry too! A surprise winner in JR fuel too, Scott
Parks defeated Dean Cater in a close match.
The sportsman ranks were full. It could have
been the 1950's.
The rear-engined "Lethal Injection" Funny Car of Romeo Palamides was
in attendance.
