Ronnie Nunes ran 6.80 at 204.50 enroute
to a final-round defeat of Pro Supercharged arch-rival Steve Woods. |
|
The Foothill Flyer is back! Owner Pete
Jensen (right), engine-builder Bob Ehrig (behind motor) and driver
Glenn Hutchison were among the teams victimized by new, 13-inch
Racemasters, failing to qualify after a pair of freewheeling attempts. |
|
The unique combination of injected nitro,
an early Gene Adams Hemi and a torque converter launched Kim Bates
into the A/FD field (6.89/206). Bates fouled off a nice 6.71 to
eventual-winner Jim Paul (6.61) in Round One. |
|
Qualifying action saw Steve Woods (near
lane) lead the Pro Super field at 6.80 (202); Rich Roberts (far
lane) missed the record 7.11 bubble. |
|
Check out the variety of A/Fuel Dragster:
Mark Mittel1s injected-nitro rat motor (near lane), tuned by Bob
Barry, qualified third, at 6.74/208; Jim Paul1s blown Buick small-block
(far lane) grabbed the pole at 6.60/192 and went on to win. |
|
Chris Beanes' 8.12 couldn't crack the
A/Gas field, but what a wheelie from his Henry J! |
|
Unseen in nearly four decades, John
Batto's Crosley-bodied A/Altered returned to duty with John Cofer
driving, went 7.76/176 during Nostalgia qualifying. |
|
Chris Abbey was beaten in the A/Gas
final, but earned enough points to take over the series lead. Wife
and ace crewperson Ann Abbey appears in the background. |
|
First-time-finalist Dusty Renteria
(near lane) was finally beaten by Jim Paul (far lane) in the A/FD
showdown. |
