IDRC HIGH-TECH CLASS
An all-domestic class at an IDRC event? That's correct.
For the second year in a row, the IDRC delighted the fans with some
10-second performances from late-model "high-tech" domestics. To be
eligible, cars in this class needed to be 1985 or newer while running
electronic fuel injection. The Ford boys came out in force, as seven
of the eight vehicles were Mustangs. The number one qualifier was Allen
Nakamura of Mililani in his '97 supercharged Cobra that tripped the
lights in 10.998 seconds. Qualifying order followed elimination results,
as the finals featured the president of Hawaii's Ford club Ernest Lum
(the #2 qualifier) against Allen's Cobra. Ernest managed a slight holeshot
advantage that quickly disappeared, as his 95 couldn't keep the pace
of Allen's 10.90-second blast.
