NHRA/CALIFORNIA
HOT ROD REUNION
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF.

Steve Woods piloted his San Leandro, Calif.-based '49 Anglia "Hypocrite" to another strong win in Pro Supercharged, besting final round opponent, Rick Souza, Santa Clara, Calif., 6.826, 201.02 to 7.116 and 195.05 mph.

CHHR 1999 inductee and former-Top Fuel driver, "Jeep" Hampshire (left) is congratulated by NHRA's Museum chief, Steve Gibbs, following his exit from the replica "Magicar" during emotional Cackle Fest. It was the first time that Hampshire had sat in a nitro-burner, while running, since a near-fatal accident in the late 1960s.

San Jose, Calif.'s Gerry Steiner guided the Steiner/Berger entry to a win in the Top Fuel "B" Division, defeating Mark Malde, who crossed the centerline. Steiner was last year's big winner in the "A" Division.

The CHHR event featured much weirdness. How else would you describe a blown A/Altered Crosley-bodied machine, complete with headers residing where the front wheels would normally be found?

Exhibition runs by a wide assortment of vehicles is sure to jog one's memory banks at CHHR. The newly-built replica of the "Burkholder Brothers" AA/Fuel Altered, a fixture for years on California's match race circuits, is a fine example of the caliber of machines that continue to show up each year.
