The Nitro Fish Funny Car of Johnny Gray debuted
a new paint job at Pomona. It didn't help, though, as the car just

Racing legend Roland Leong (right) made his
first appearance in the livery of Chuck Etchell's team. |

San Diego racer Chuck Beal sported the Drag
Racing Online name at Pomona. With our name on his windshield, he
even reads DRO when he's driving. |

All the work in the pits paid off for the
Coughlin team as Jeg took a close one for the win. |

was deprived of two booked-in sessions of rip-roarin', ricocheting AA/Fuel
Altereds, at one time the most gonzo and sphincter-puckering spectacle
in the sport and whose participation has al but disappeared from the
pavement. Their appearance was curiously mothballed at Pomona, despite
a live television-regimented schedule that was nearly a quarter hour
ahead of schedule.
It could be argued that this was the NHRA's biggest foul-up and transgression

Fuel champion Don Garlits, whose exploits and biographical information
were shunned by the NHRA in their 50th Anniversary coffee table, "Life
in the Fast Lane."
