The final round in Federal Mogul Dragster was a classic in many respects. David Baca's car (left) is a dual plug, injected, nitro burner on Hoosier tires. Steve Santo's supercharged car uses a single mag and Goodyear tires. Santos qualified number one with a quickest-ever for the class 5.338 and Baca qualified number 2 with the best speed of all time 269.56 and change. The pair met in the final and it was all Santos and the defending world champ motored away from a wounded Baca.

Tony Schumacher picked up where he left of in '99 when he won his first World Championship at the Phoenix event, dropping the unsponsored car of Bob Vandergriff in the finals.

Joe Amato was right behind Gary Scelzi in qualifying with a stout 4.601 / 317.42 which was good for Top Speed of the meet.

Ron Capps driving for Don Prudhomme drove the Ed McCulloch-tuned Camaro to a 4.85 and a 4.89 before bowing out in the semi-finals.
