GLIDDEN WINS PRO NATS
AT CORDOVA

CORDOVA, Ill. -- The motto of the U.S. Postal Service
goes something like...neither rain nor sleet nor snow nor dark of night
shall deter the carrier...yada yada yada. The point is the mail gets
delivered regardless. The PRO Hot Rod & Muscle Car Nationals staff
and the staff of Cordova Dragway Park have the same credo as they got
the race in despite and pounding rain and thunderstorm the morning of
the race. PRO events feature a variety of heads-up classes including
Pro Modified, Pro Street, and Super Street.
Milt Decker and Billy Glidden (above photo) captured titles
in their respective categories at the second stop of the PRO Edelbrock
Fastest Street Car National event tour. Decker, from Dover, Pa., drove
a Gene Fulton-built, nitrous-injected small-block to the win in Pro
Street over Pro Street veteran Randy Adler (photo below) who has parked
his fabled GTO in favor of a blown big-block, alcohol-powered '57 Chevy.
Decker and Adler qualified first and second respectively
which set up the final round showdown. Adler wasted a stellar 6.738/199
lap by virtue of an un-stellar .609 reaction time.
That left the door open for Decker, who used Adler up
with a .521 light. His better reaction time combined with a slower elapsed
time of 6.82 got Decker to the stripe one foot in front of Adler.
