CONCLUSION
The great thing about heads-up racing is that anything can and usually
does happen. At the First Annual DRO Quick 8, the number seven qualifier
Scott Lindle got the win and the money. The quickest and fastest car
didn't win but went to the final and got paid for being the quickest
and fastest. The cars that qualified ranged from David Bryant's nine-second
dragster, to Rick Verkler's eight-second Chevy-powered T-Bird to the
Crazy Critter fuel altered which lived up to its name and reputation
in every way.
Team DRO had an eventful time. There was driver Dave Koehler striving
to shake off about six years of ring rust and fighting the high horsepower
output of the DRO blown big block Chevy. And then there was the matter
of actually letting WRITERS work on a racecar! What were they thinking?!
But hey, the DRO-mobile qualified (on the break rule), and we almost
beat that doorslammers in the first round. But it was a fun time racing
with a great group of racers.
DRO wants to thank each and every racer who participated and to also
let you know that we are planning to put on some more of these events
next year. We are planning to keep the payout the same at the top and,
if we get enough entries, increase the qualifying money. The idea here
is to have a fun event for the weekend warrior not a class for touring
pros. We'll keep it an eight cars and DRO will make up the rules as
we go along. We won't allow cars to compete that violate the spirit
of the class. In other words, we won't allow some pro car to come in
and take the money. We want this to be a fun deal that will put a little
money in the fast racers' pockets. If you have any questions or ideas
keep them to yourselves until next year unless you want to give some
money to the DRO Quick 8 series.
Regardless of why the racers who participated did so, we at DRO are
glad they did. We had fun doing it, and hope to make a habit if it.
That's fair warning for next year.
