Quain Stott was looking for a little more horsepower, but couldn't find it this day and had to watch brother Mitch carry the Stott family colors one more round. The defending Pro Mod championship team of Jim Oddy and driver Fred Hahn shocked everyone by not qualifying for the ultra-tough Pro Mod field at Rockingham. The team didn't complete the work on their new C-5 'Vette until 2:00 a.m. Thursday so they were unable to do any testing until the first lap they made. The team's second pass on Friday yielded a 6.39 but they were unable to improve on Saturday and missed qualifying for the record setting field by just .05. Another Elma, N.Y. racer, Mike Janis, did very well, though, as he put his supercharged '63 'Vette into the field in the second spot with a career best 6.260/223.84. Tom Anderson, who consulted for the Jim Oddy team last year, was tuning Janis' car for this event. |
