Mr. Magoo goes Top Fuel

FUNNY CAR

Despite the balance currently in play among the F/C field, Force looked to be in control from the opening bell. He ran laps of 4.94, 4.87 and 4.97 in beating Chuck Etchells, Whit Bazemore and Tim Wilkerson (photo) to reach the finals. On the other side of the ladder, Tony P was keeping pace with da boss, with winning runs of 4.88, 4.87 and 5.10 over Bruce Sarver, Johnny Gray, and Ron Capps. With all the key challengers ousted, the Castrol men were free to go at it, best man wins style. it was all over at 150 feet, with Force smoking the tires hard, Tony P getting small for the win at 4.91 / 309 mph. Post race, Tony made the usual unemployment jokes, but in reality, he did what team cars do -- he took out the opposition, and got the TV time for the money men. Good job, Tony P!!

PRO STOCK
Constant threat Kurt Johnson was outta there before eliminations even began, failing to qualify. Strangeness continued in the first Pro Stock pairing, with Mark Pawuk winning a coasting duel with Bruce Allen. Given a lucky break, Pawuk took it and ran all the way to the finals, beating mark Osborne and Rickie Smith in the process. Ron Krisher was advancing from the number 10 qualifying spot, running consistent 6.90's in wins over George Marnell, Mike Edwards, and Vieri Gaines. For the money, Pawuk drove it out of the groove, falling off to a 7.07 time slip. Krisher was straight and gone in the other lane, winning with a 6.96, his best of the day.
