Equally impressive was
Mike Foulk's beautiful yellow 1969 Torino, qualifying
second with a 7.754 at 178.07. (Cranmer photo)
The next cars to beat the pavement were the
top dogs of the event, Super Pro Street. This
class has a base weight of 2,350 pounds, allows
one "power adder" and any rear tire. These rules
definitely leave a lot of area for uniqueness
in the class. You see everything from naturally
aspirated mountain-motored Pro Stocks, to blown,
alcohol burning 526ci hemis, to small block
turbocharged Fords and Chevys, and everything
in between.

A brand new hemi-headed
Sonny Leonard motor was in John Bartunek's Pontiac
Pro Stock. With only a handful of runs on the
motor, it pulled them to a ninth place qualifying
effort with a 6.840 at 206.70 mph. (Gruenwald

Brian Robbins' very cool
new blown Hurst Oldsmobile, qualified second
with a 6.686 at 210.77. (Gruenwald photo)
