The beautiful number 2 qualified Hurst Olds of Brian Robbins was also upset by Lawrence Conley's number 31 qualified '94 Camaro.

The 10.5 tire class also ran with out a hitch, but during Radial Tire the clouds rolled in. A few hours of mopping up between rain showers and the third round doesn't begin until about 6 p.m. Around 11 p.m. the final few rounds were postponed until Monday.

MONDAY FINAL

The final round of Radial Tire paired Bobby Frye's '93 Mustang against Scott Hodges' '92 Mustang, with Frye's 8.848 at 171.33 mph beating Hodges' 10.115 at 118.67 mph. Heavy Street's final paired John Schroeder and Rob Hudlow, both in 2002 Camaros. Schroeder's Low E.T. and Top Speed pass of 7.522 at 187.81 mph took Hudlow's coasting 12.791 at 67.84 mph.

In Mickey Thompson 10.5, it was "Mr. 200" himself, Steve Kirk Jr., defeating Mike Hill with a 7.385 at 195.56 mph over a 7.410 at 190.07 mph. (Cranmer photo)

It was the battle of the Tony's in the final round of Super Pro Street, Tony Christian vs. Tony Gillig, with Gillig's 6.733 at 210.7 7 mph taking out Christian's 6.836 at 209.64. Gillig got $1,000 for qualifying number 1 and $10,000 for the event win. (Gruenwald photo)

Even with the showers -- which seems to be a recurring theme in drag racing this year -- it was still one of the most exciting races happening outside of the sanctioning bodies. With all four classes on a heads-up, four-tenths tree, the racing is tough. The cars are always cool and the track always sticky. Carl Weisinger and the Orlando Speed World Dragway have themselves one hell of a race.

The fans went crazy when Top Sportsman competitor Ron Muenks set Low E.T.
of the even during eliminations with a blast of 6.615 seconds. (Cranmer photo)
