Other NHRA Pro Stock teams testing ran speeds
and elapsed times that bettered NHRA's Pro Stock
records. Terry Adams, driving Barry Grant's
Pontiac Grand Am, ran a string of 6.70's at
over 202 with a best of 6.73/204.87. Other teams
at Bradenton included ex-Pro Stock Truck competitor
Randy Daniels, V. Gaines, Jim Bernard, Jerry
Haas in a new Grand Prix, who made just one
(6.79/204.12) lap, Tom Hammonds in a new Cavalier,
and Ron Krisher, who also had a pair of laps
better than the NHRA National E.T. standard,
recording a 6.72/204.31 and a 6.74/203.66

There were also a contingent of IHRA mountain
motored Pro Stockers getting ready for the IHRA
season opener at San Antonio, Texas the end
of February. John Nobile was driving the Chevy
that John Montecalvo had last year and ran a
best of 6.60/210.57. Doug Kirk's ex-Charlie
Hunt Mustang was also on hand, with the help
of crew chief Gary Henry. Montecalvo had a new
RJ Race Cars Cavalier at the track and had engine
builder Sonny Leonard in tow. It's not known
if the engine had a pair of the new Sonny Leonard
"Chevy-Hemi" heads on the motor, but the car
never did make a full run.

Sportsman racers also were on hand to shake
down some of their new equipment. Scott Tidwell
brought his ex-Pro Stock Truck now equipped
with an automatic trans and ran a bunch of 7.70/172+
laps in what is probably a B or C Econo-altered.
Scott Perin also made laps in his C/A running
a best of 7.56/178.84
If the NHRA Pro Stock racers can carry over
these performances to their season opener at
Pomona the first weekend in February, then the
Pro Stock records will fall. Regardless of that,
the Bradenton NHRA Pro Stock record is better
than NHRA's and you can bet that next year there
will be more cars at this annual test session.
