ARHRA at Phoenix

W
hen almost the only way a true nitro junkie
can get a snort of those noxious yellow fumes
is to crack open that mason jar they keep in
the fridge while watching one of Dean Papadeas'
tapes, the Nostalgia guys of ARHRA opened the
nitro season at Phoenix International Raceway
with a big group of nitro burning fuel coupes,
altereds and front-motored dragsters. DRO sent
Nostalgia Editor Tim Marshall to cover the event.
He sent us these photos but before he could
send us the words we sent him over to Firebird
for the NHRA warm-up. We thought we would tease
you a little by running these photos and then
in the next couple of days we will add Tim's
words. Go to the fridge, crack open the mason
jar, take a deep breath and enjoy. There's more
to come. - Jeff Burk

Top Fuel runner-up was
Rich Howell, who has teamed with Fred Farndon
for 2003. (Tim Marshall photo)

Mike Boyd in the famed
Marcellus, Borsch, and Boyd 'Winged Express'
put on quite a show, running easy 7.50's dangling
the wheels in the air to the half track! (Tim
