he Detroit Locker PRO Hot Rod Muscle Car Nationals were held at Bradenton, Florida April 16-18. Here are the results and some of the action.

STANDING OVATIONS

Sam Berardi got the wheels up on his Super Street '57 Chevy.

Jamie Stanton didn't get as much air in his 2000 Camaro, but he did get the Pro Stock win.
Todd Goodwin debuted his Viper in Pro Stock.
Matthew Gilmore's supercharged '32 Bantam roadster got the Open Outlaw win when John Alberigi crossed the center line at about 400 feet. Gilmore was no slouch, though, as he stormed to a fine 6.531/211.01 run. The Open Outlaw class is very popular at Bradenton. There are no blown alcohol dragsters, rear engine dragsters must have a powerglide and all motors must have a diaper. Funny cars are allowed, but no screw blowers.

Randy Shearin won the Super Truck class over Garry Puesifer. Shearin's '82 Chevy S-10 also was No. 1 qualifier at 10.817. Nick Weckesser's '37 Chevy took the Open Comp win over Scott Laws' '82 Mustang.

THERE'S ALWAYS A PHOTOGRAPHER AROUND WHEN YOU DON'T WANT ONE

Everything started off fine for Randy Draffen of South Lyon, Mich. His '98 Camaro was competing in the first round of Pro Street and he had a bye run.

At about half-track, however, the car got close to the guardrail. Draffen brought it back towards the center, but as it closed in on the finish line it got crossed up and came back across the track. It looked like Draffen has saved it, when the Camaro came around and the wheelie bars caught the left side rail, flipping the car on its roof. Draffen was not injured, but the car will need some cosmetic work.

BLEW HIS DOORS OFF -- REALLY

Maybe it was just the Pro Street jinx continuing. In the final, Tim O'Hare got the win after a door of Steve King's '98 Viper flew off at about the 100-ft mark. King was trying to make up for O'Hare's holeshot at the start. David Hance brought his ex-Don Walsh Jr. turbo Mustang down from Long Island, NY and made it to the semifinals in Pro Street.
Steve Miller's Chevy S-10 held Pro Street Top Speed and Low E.T. of the meet at 6.657 and 208.91 mph, but was taken out in the second round by Steve King. Charlie Booze Jr. ran the first eight-second time in Pro Stock, qualifying No. 1 at 8.959. The Pennsylvania driver lost in the final round to No. 2 qualifier Jamie Stanton.

Randy Shearin, of Port Charlotte, FL, qualified No. 1 and took the Super Truck win over Garry Puesifer in an '86 Jimmy. Heath Shemwell brought his '69 Camaro from Elkton, KY. He topped the Nostalgia Muscle Car qualifying, but was beaten in the final round by Jim Barr in a '68 GTO.

Joe Winick's sharp '63 Tempest was No. 2 qualifier in Nostalgia Super Stock, but the driver from Lafayette Hill, PA went out in the semis. Bradenton resident Larry Martin qualified No. 1, had Top Speed at 137.34 mph, and won the Super Stock class. Martin's '63 Plymouth turned a 10.056/135.01 against Gene Egbert's '64 Galaxie.
