'GENIUS'
WRITES FOR DRO!
I'm no literary genius, but in my opinion Ian
Tocher is. I think that his holiday poem is
the most awesome variation of Mr. Livingston's
classic that I've ever read. Thumbs up to you.
Keep up the good work. I'll be reading.

BURK MAY NOT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO NEEDS TO GO TO SCHOOL
(unedited)
Jeff Burk's comments regarding delay boxes is typical of the acknowledgeable dribble that is so prevalent amongst the haters of the Super categories. But what makes it worst is that Mr. Burk is suppose to be an expert in the field of drag racing. And yet his comments prove how little even the experts know.

Mr. Burk is quoted in his article wishing for
"Rules that do away with electronic crossover
and delay boxes in Super Gas and Super Comp
and put the driver back in the equation. Winners
ought not to be determined, more often than
not, by reaction time and sixty-foot times."
First, "electronic crossover" is not used in any Super category. There is no need for it since both cars leave on a heads up tree. Goes to show how little understanding of how delay boxes work that Mr. Burk has. Second, I don't remember ever hearing of a delay box letting go of transbrake in time to have a near perfect reaction time. That's a function of the driver! And third, the only function of the delay box is to prevent redlights. That's the only use for a delay box. It doesn't tune the car, or drive the car! A delay box doesn't make any decisions on what should be done down track, and it sure as hell doesn't remove the driver from the equation.
You know, if I were Jeg Coughlin, I'd be personally offended by Burk's comments! After all, many of Jeg's late season round wins that won him the championship were won on his ability to cut a better reaction time than his opponent. I guess it must be okay for the pros to win a round because of the their reaction time but not Super category racers. At least not by Mr. Burk's wishful thinking.
Thanks for printing another clueless comment that only further soils the hard work and dedication of the people that run these categories.
Disagreeably,
Greg Stanley
