SPORTSMAN FIGURES
Just read (Burk's) article about the sportsman. I do have some comments for you to think about > The Sportsman are one of the Major Profit centers for NHRA.
I figure that about 500 sportsman attend the 22 national events at about $300 per racer; with crews I figure that each sportsman has to join NHRA at about $70.00 per racer.
I figure that most of the racers have to buy a permanent number and renew it every year. I figure that most of the racers all subscribe to national dragster. I figure that we buy a lot of souvenirs from NHRA.
Now it seems that just about 98% of the advertising in National Dragster is
geared towards the Sportsman, yet most of the
articles are geared towards the minority (pros).

do
know that the advertisers should be concerned
about the direction National Dragster aims its
ads towards > Or at least I would if I had an
a d in Dragster. This sportsman ads are a direct
result of companies making money off of the
sportsman only, not the pros. (A question: so
how come the advertisers don't complain in Dragster
about the aim of the mag towards the pros ????
Good question hun)
Now I hope you can see where I am going with this, the return financially in purses or perks is almost an insult, to the sportsman if most did not do this for fun, there is no doubt Drag racing is the very worst investment in the history of Motor sports or any investment for that matter.
Now I know NHRA has to have the sportsman at a National event because just say I just know with my contacts with NHRA, There would be not cars in the pits, cause I know that not only is a national event a race, it is a car show, an happening, a circus. There is action all over the place other than just the staring line
I think that with the pre-entry for national events coming in 365 days a year I figure that the overall picture is that Sportsman bring in $10,000.00 per day one way or another.
Now don't forget the many dragstrips across the US that pay NHRA for Sportsman to run at their tracks and it goes on and on for the sportsman profit center.
I know you can think of more ways Sportsman pay more money to NHRA. A pretty neat cash flow don't you think?
By The Way I still support NHRA and I hope that the above reasons are why the sportsman racing will never go away. We are one of many Major profit centers for NHRA and it takes all of NHRA profits center to make NHRA successful.
